We want, via our knowhow, to support the paralympic athletes to reach their goals and, of course, as an export driven business to work together with an internationally famed team&#8221;, says Mrs Teija Toikka, the c.e.o. of LYMED.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The benefits of the pressure garment has been known for a while now and the use of compression garments has hit the sport industry like a rocket in recent years. The greatest reported benefits of using pressure garments are recovery and prevention of injuries. All sports garments are manufactured hand made by LYMED whilst paying attention to the sport in question and the athlete&#8217;s personal anatomy. &#8220;Custom made garments allow us to activate proprioseptics on a larger scale and control the effects of the sport suit. Usually a person does not know how to evaluate the external factors correcting proprioseptics or sensory knowledge because they are unconsciously operated. Our own movement behavior is etched in our unconsciousness. The choice of a good technical garment, especially in para sports where there might be many disabilities at play, is extremely difficult. This is why the custom made garment is the only safe way to execute a pressure treatment. We want to see each athlete as an individual and give each product we manufacture our wide-ranged techno-medical knowhow&#8221;, says physiotherapist Erkka Hein\u00e4, LYMED&#8217;s division manager, R&amp;D.<\/p>\n<p>Alpinist Katja Saarinen is preparing for her fourth paralympics. The goal is to retrieve a medal in Sot\u0161i at 2014 in her main sport, slalom. The cooperation with LYMED gives a new perspective to training. &#8220;It&#8217;s amazing that Finland has this sort of professional knowledge. The enthusiasm in their product development and eagerness to serve a ever-growing user base impressed me completely. I have struggled with recovery issues throughout my career. Skiing with only one ski is a huge stress on my leg which also does all of the work in my every day life. The expectations are high in regards the sport suit which can also help the metabolism in the muscles. It will be exciting to observe how we can change the perception of the body &#8211; especially in the side of the stump &#8211; which now lacks the information received during skiing via the contact with the snow. Even the tiniest improvement can affect the outcome of the performance. I am truly privileged to be able to have LYMED as my supporter and have the opportunity to develop new things with professionals who are excited about their products. I hope that through my own experiences the products will help other athletes to reach their dreams, too&#8221; says Katja.<\/p>\n<p>Toni Piispanen, a wheelchair racer, will prepare for Rio 2016 &#8211; also supported by LYMED. He will defend his win of class T51\u00a0 from London Paralympics of 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Paralympic Committee of Finland is responsible for the development of para sports. The committee is accountable for coaching, balance sheets as well as paralympic preparations and influencing on an international scale in regards to top-level para sports. The committee promotes purposeful, responsible and ethically sustainable top-level para sports.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paralympia.fi\/en\/committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.paralympia.fi<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lymed.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Katja_Saarinen_Lymed.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1621\" style=\"border: 8px solid white;\" alt=\"Katja_Saarinen_Lymed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lymed.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Katja_Saarinen_Lymed.png\" width=\"334\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The designing of the individual sports suit starts at the measuring. Erkka, Teija and Katja collectively search solutions on how to support Katja&#8217;s knee and activate her thigh muscle. Erkka is planning the sizes and placing of the supports that will be constructed for Katja&#8217;s knee and quadriceps whilst Teija is taking down her measurements. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> It was decided that the suit will be built with supports that activate individual muscles with regards to the performance\u00a0 and the challenges Katja faces in her technique. A diagonal section will me constructed for the upper body to conform the obliques.
