Mr Lennu Mets\u00e4ranta, from the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, studied how Lymed custom-made trousers influence recovery. The aim was to find out how, if at all, Lymed custom-made compression trousers affect the recovery of isometric strength, thickness of vastus lateralis, testosterone and cortisol levels, creatine kinase levels and subjective feeling of muscle pain \u2013 all after hypertrophic load, maximum strength and power exercises. The chosen timeframe was 48 hours after performance. The study group consisted of fifteen athletic and active men.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Test subjects did performances both with and without the trousers, acting as their own control group. Hypertrophic load caused the biggest response rates in the hormones \u2013 it caused the biggest reduction in isometric power, most edema in muscles and biggest feeling of muscle pain. When using compression trousers after hypertrophic load, the isometric power recovered 4.4% more within 24hrs and 7.4% more in 48 hrs, compared to the control group. Edema was significantly lower after 24hrs and even at 48hrs with the trousers on. The same pattern was observed after power exercises, too.<\/p>\n

\"Lymed_juoksu\"<\/a>With custom-made compression, the feeling of muscle pain was lower at the 24hr point after maximum strength exercises and significantly lower at the 48hr point after hypertrophic load. Levels of creatine kinase were almost significantly lower at the 48hr point after hypertrophic load. The level of testosterone was lower even at the 48hr point after performance when the trousers were not in use. Without custom-made compression trousers, the level of testosterone after performance was even lower than its levels in rest.<\/p>\n

The study concludes that custom-made compression trousers have a positive effect on recovery after heavy strength performances. According to the study, compression treatment can be recommended in sports which cause decrease of power, muscle damage, edema and muscle pain: either off-season or on.<\/p>\n
